Napoleon and Yoshi

An illustration challenge, to create a natural blend of two character types that would never be together naturally.  I went with a different retro style than I traditionally have done, and produced a really fun piece!

Mates of State Poster

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Band Poster Design.  I went for a retro 60’s/80’s feel to reflect the band’s music (80’s electronic) and lyrical style (60’s feel good).

This poster has a psychedelic feel, with hand rendered typography, and high energy that reflects the bubbly pop that Mates of State is famous for.

Storybook Design

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The challenge was to write, illustrate and print a children’s-style storybook in 4 weeks.

“Johnny’s First Date” includes 16 full colour pages of original artwork, 9 unique characters and a fun story directed at teens (and their parents)!

The project used Flash for artwork (so that characters could be rigged and posed easily) and InDesign for layout/typography.

Advanced Photoshop Magazine

Monday, March 1st, 2010

When I was asked to refresh the look of a magazine in my graphic design class, I knew I wanted this project to really push my understanding of InDesign and Photoshop.

So the natural choice was to choose a Photoshop magazine.  Advanced Photoshop looked great already, but I had a few enhancements in mind.

I also created the cover art piece, then used the making-of the piece as an article to complete the assignment!
