Mad Men: Grunge Collage

March 4th, 2010

Back in my first year of college, we had a small assignment to create a grunge collage. I turned this piece into an advertisement of sorts for one of my favorite shows, AMC’s Mad Men.

The entire piece took about 4 hours, and it was really a blast to research and rebuild a number of old logos, then to age them in Photoshop.

Metamorphosis: Ballerina Hand Blender

March 4th, 2010

A hand drawn piece I created, this piece is a metamorphosis from hand blender to ballerina.  Or is it ballerina to hand blender…

Drawn at 11×17, then scanned and cleaned up in Photoshop, and finally digitally painted in Photoshop.  The entire piece took about 16 hours to complete, and it had some really intricate lighting (particularily on the hand blender).

Poster Design: Rotoscoping

March 4th, 2010

An experiment in rotoscoping, this poster design for my graphic design class tasked me with creating an idealized version of myself.

Naturally, I couldn’t resist the “James Bond” theme.  My wife makes a cameo appearance as my bond girl in this one.  This was a really fun piece to create, and if I had any critique on this one, it would be to add a bit more definition to my face!

Kid Robot Poster Concept

March 4th, 2010

This poster challenge, to develop a poster for one of your favorite artists, as if they were producing product for Kid Robot (a custom toy manufacturer).

I selected Shane Glines (one of my absolute favorite retro-style artists), and created a retro-styled poster to match.  This was an exciting opportunity for me to do some work with Shane’s beautiful artwork, and the firstchance I had while in school to create a retro piece.

Typically, when I look back on my work, I see many things I would have liked to have changed.  But this piece still feels just about right to me.

Pic-A-Pop Microsite Concept

March 4th, 2010

The microsite was part of a group marketing challenge in college.  Our team developed the “what’s your flavour?” campaign, with the idea being that each flavour was best suited for a certain type of person, and this web site needed to evoke those feelings.  The site allows users to vote on which flavour they would like to see pic-a-pop create next (the demo version below does not actually log votes).  Created using a combination of Photoshop and Flash.

Online Learning System

March 4th, 2010

Part of the “Faculty of Fishing” site design, I developed a number of flash animated training lessons for the client.  Each lesson has a powerful control system that can collect non-invasive data from users about how the system is used, and will automatically record completion to a database, so courses can be managed through the FILMS Learning Management System.  In addition, there are a number of built in security features to protect the data from being downloaded and used on other sites.

6teen.ca

March 4th, 2010

6teen.ca began as a hobby site for a television show my family and I enjoyed.  It became the official unofficial site for the show as we received thousands of visitors every month during the 5 years of the show’s run.

The site includes streaming video and audio, a completely user customizable episode guide, and was built to be extremely bandwidth efficient (to provide maximum performance at the lowest possible cost even when receiving huge amounts of monthly traffic).

The site is still around, even though the show is off the air, and still has a dedicated fan base.  Check it out at www.6teen.ca!

Fashion Face-Off Demo

March 4th, 2010

After I had developed 6teen.ca, I had a number of requests to create games for the site.  I created a number of different games, but “Fashion Face-Off” was the most complex.

In this game, you try to purchase the best clothing for the character (based on their mood, which changes on each play) with limited cash and limited time.  You’re then rated on how “fashionable” you are at the end of the level.  The game turned out to be a very popular addition to the site!
